TWO KEY HOLIDAY EVENTS TO BE HOSTED IN PENETANGUISHENE
Plans are well underway to celebrate and rejoice in the spirit and excitement of the forthcoming Winter Season.
8th Annual Festival of Lights Our volunteers are ready to rekindle your holiday spirit at the 8th Annual Festival of Lights Celebration on Friday, November 27, 2009. Activities will take place in two key locations; at the corner of Main Street and Robert Street and the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum and Archives. The evening will include a combination of music, children’s crafts, face painting, children’s entertainment, refreshments and photos with Santa. Olympic Torch Relay On December 29th, only 5 short weeks, the Town of Penetanguishene will have the honour to act as a Route Community to the Olympic Flame as it travels a record of 45,000 kilometres across Canada. Congratulations to Kelly Wilson of Penetanguishene (Dec 29th) and Wendy Cousineau, Community Development Coordinator for the Town of Penetanguishene (Dec 30th) both of whom have been selected by RBC® to carry a torch for Canada in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. There are a number of ways YOU can participate in this once in a lifetime event! · Welcome the Olympic Flame as it passes on the torch route. Due to security concerns the time, route layout and road closures for each community will be announced 1-2 weeks before the event. Additional information on the route will be available online at www.vancouver2010.com, on the Town website at www.penetanguishene.ca, and on local radio stations and newspapers (where possible). · Volunteers are required in Penetanguishene as well as the Celebration Ceremony in Midland. Contact Wendy Cousineau, Community Development Coordinator at (705) 549-7453 ext 223 for additional information. On behalf of the Council & Staff of the Town of Penetanguishene, I wish to extend a personal invitation to the community to join us at these key events.
In the Spirit of the Season,
Mayor Anita Dubeau Town of Penetanguishene
